Foolishness

They say that anyone who does the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome is a fool. Well, marvel in our foolishness as we go to arm militant Sunni’s some of whom were actually part of al Qaeda in the past!

As the surge strategy appears to have also been a failure, it looks as though in a last ditch effort to try and get a handle on the violence in Baghdad, military commanders have sought to arm and support militant groups who have in the past actually fought AGAINST us, in the hopes that they’ll take up the fight against al Qaeda.

And can I express how much of a good idea this is not? Here, I’ll chuck a couple of names out there; Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden.

I’m just saying.

It is this policy of proxy warmaking that has come back to bite us so many times in the past, and actually, considering who we went over their to take down in the first place, and who we are fighting now, in the present as well. Essentially, this is not ally making and coalition building, which is what I think should have been the goal from the beginning.

This isn’t even the enemy of my enemy is my friend. This is more along the lines of giving them guns, and hoping they’ll use them on someone else, and not us.

Unfortunately, whether it’s immediate or ten years down the line, the bullets most likely are coming back our way. Which just goes to show how much we don’t belong over there, attempting to stand up a Shi’a government but arming militant Sunnis, and then not expecting civil war?

Really?
