Alberto Gonzales: The Man With All The Answers

Okay, so Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is probably almost used to feeling embarrassed by now, don’t you think? I mean, every time he gets up in front of Congress, he seems inflicted with a severe case of stupid with little hope of recovery. But to be fair, Gonzo’s been only getting schooled by senior Senators; Senator Leahy, Schumer, Specter, you know, the old guys who’ve been around the block for awhile.

But do you think he feels fresh gouts of shame and embarrassment when he gets schooled by a freshman senator?

Courtesy Raw Story, we have what is, at least in my mind, the funniest thing I’ve read all day long. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a freshman Democrat from Rhode Island posed the following question to the under fire Gonzo. “What – on earth – business does the Office of the Vice President have in the internal workings of the Department of Justice with respect to criminal investigations, civil investigations, and ongoing matters?”

To which Gonzo answered, “As a general matter, I would say that’s a good question.”

Well, yeah, Gonzo, one that you are, um, supposed to kinda have the answer to, you know being in charge of the Department of Justice alluded to in the Senator’s question. That’s one of the things you’re supposed to know. Especially when you are the one that kind of wrote the memo.

But no, Gonzo was shocked, “On its face – I must say – sitting here, I’m troubled by this.”

We are too, Gonzo. We are too.
