Bill O’Liely: Dumbass

(h/t memeorandum and Crooks and Liars)

Not having cable, and not being particularly capable of tolerating Bill O’Liely for long periods of time, I don’t often get the opportunity to bash the filafel-phile, a reality of life that I regret deeply. Unlike Rudy, whom on top of all the rest of my criticism I think is severely disingenuous, something about Bill is that I think he actually both knows and believes most of the things that are coming out of his mouth, on top of having an uncanny ability to instantly forget every misstep he has ever made or every contradiction that he spews.

So for this opportunity, I want to thank Crooks and Liars for giving me a little something to go on. It would seem that Billo has taken on a crusade against both DailyKos, and the annual convention that Hillary Clinton among others plans to attend, YearlKos. They even have a video I suggest you go watch.

In the video, Bill O’Liely engages in something that really gets under my skin; an over simplification of liberal views in order to paint us with a radical bent. Observe:

“The Far Left wants a cut-and-run strategy in Iraq which would leave chaos on the Middle East”- This is a gross mischaracterization of the broader view. While some do favor an immediate and complete withdrawl, I think the more widely held view, and the more responsible is to understand that there is no military solution in Iraq and if we continue there in the capacity we currently are, there will be little to no change in the dynamics ten years down the road, twenty, thirty. We are injecting ourselves in a civil war that should be left for the Iraqi’s to solve. We offer a multitude of solutions, all of them different, but all of them would do at least one thing that Bush’s policies seem incapable of doing; moving forward the progression of the Iraqi situation. Yes, there will most likely be more fighting once we leave, but that’s true for just about any scenario, the only difference is that with the bloodshed going on now, there’s very little progress. But here’s the bigger thing Bill, you have taken in one or two sentences and condensed our views, views that we write essays and articles upon, views that we ponder and debate constantly and in a detailed fashion. Above all the rhetoric and slogans, and broad strokes, what the real liberal view on Iraq is is this; this is not a simple situation and cannot be characterized in one or two sentences.

Which is what this administration and its cheerleaders like Bill O’Liely have done.

He also makes the case that our “cut and run” policy would strengthen terrorists to which I can only sit here and give my computer screen a very wry look. I won’t go directly into this particular debunk because I do it seemingly every day.

When he talks about liberal economic policies, there’s a lot of fallacious platitudes, but what really struck me as weird was his claim that America is at full employment… Full employment? So every American has a job? HOLY CRAP WE’RE ALL EMPLOYED, LIFE’S GREAT!!! Oh wait, we are currently exhibiting 4.5% unemployment, in this country, which means there are some people out of a job therefore we can’t possibly be experiencing full employment and oh my god is he just a terrible liar. Why would you do this? Really? He could have said something like we are experiencing encouragingly low unemployment and then I would have to go through and start digging out charts of people who are able to make a living wage and all that, but I mean full employment? Why would you make a claim that is so easy to debunk?

I just don’t get it.

Of course, Bill O’Liely has to get into a little bit of George Soros conspiracy theory, making the claim that taxing the upper class and corporations would result in outsourcing to Soros’ out of the country stronghold, forgetting that a lot of the outsourcing would go to India and China, and also neglecting to mention that the only reason these corporations are free to outsource as such is because of the policies this administration have put in place. Now, I’m cool with free trade, so long as the playing field is leveled out. It’s not particularly fair to American workers if they are competing with someone overseas who can legally ask for less than half of what Americans are required by law to receive. But Bill doesn’t want to have a debate, he just wants to paint us as absolutely moronic with his giant crayon. Who cares about debate and actually learning about what the other side wants? Let’s just smear them, right Bill?

Next up is the abolition of anti-terrorist programs like the warrantless wiretapping. Yeah Bill, we do want to get rid of them, but maybe because we aren’t so quick to tuck our tails between our legs and cower and shiver in fear like you. I don’t know, maybe it has something to do with some moonbat saying, “Give me liberty or give me death.” The truth is that much of these programs, from warrantless wiretapping to torturing of detainees only provide the smallest of beneficial anti terrorist returns (if any at all) in comparison to setting precedents on civil liberties in this country that are truly frightening. Personally, I want to fight terrorists, I really do, but I want to fight them as an American, not as a member of a totalitarian regime. Call me crazy.

*sigh* Well, at least no one actually listens to this guy, right? Right?

you are over simplified libs in general, I mean don’t get me wrong, I have nothing “against” liberal dems in general. I am serious, in fact my girlfriend is a liberal dem herself………she has never came out and said as much, but every time we go somewhere she sits in the passenger seat and bitches the whole time so she has to be I think.
