- 1980 - Poland’s Solidarity labor union forms.
- 1997 - Diana, Princess of Wales dies in a car crash.
- 2001 - George W. Bush delivers speech entitled “President’s Priorities for Fall: Education, Economy, Opportunity, Security,” one day after receiving the infamous PDB “Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US.”
