Criticizing the Media: Is This Really News?

Some of my best friends are gay.

Actually, my brother’s gay, but even before he came out, I was pretty much for gay rights because it’s the right thing to do.  Bigotry is bigotry, doesn’t matter if it’s directed towards people who have a different skin tone, religion, or sexual orientation than you.

But that doesn’t stop Homosexuality from being one huge firestorm in today’s political debate.  Most recently, with the antics of Larry Craig, it’s nearly gotten to the point where there’s a kinda Homosexual McCarthyism in DC.  “Are you now, or have you ever been a fag?”

Nor does it stop the idea that maybe Senator Hillary Clinton is not herself a lesbian from being wire burning news.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Ridiculous and irrelevent, the media focus on sexual orientation has gotten out of hand, leading to immature affirmations to one’s heterosexuality which really only matters to whomever it is you share a bed with, and definitely not with how the country is run.

Some people are gay, some aren’t, and the only time it has anything to do with governance is when people can’t manage to keep out of other people’s business.  Get over it.
