Obama Going After Hillary On Iran

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama is preparing to launch an offensive against the Hillary camp in regards to her recent vote for the Kyl-Lieberman proposal that would label with the sense of the Senate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization.

The motion as described by Virginia Senator Jim Webb, would have been “Dick Cheney’s fondest pipe dream.”  This is to the extent that under the guise of the GWOT, by declaring Iran’s military a terrorist organization, you are essentially giving the Administration a viable means of bypassing congress in carrying out military action against Iran.  In other words, it is this kind of legislation that mirrors the run up to the Iraq War, and the same exact kind of legislation that those who shouldn’t have made the Iraq vote originally should have finally learned their lesson about.

But, some may argue, might the fact that Obama failed to cast a vote on the Kyl-Lieberman measure ruin his ability to attack Hillary Clinton on her vote?

I think not.

Here is something that is true; yes, Sen. Obama was at the time campaigning up in New Hampshire.  What is not true, though, is that he chose campaigning over the vote, or the idea that he obviously didn’t think the vote was so dangerous and important that he decided to ignore it.

Neuvoliberal, a Kos diarist, has the entire rundown as to why Obama missed the vote:

BS. Obama didn’t know that Kyl-Lieberman

vote was going to take place.

“he couldn’t be bothered to stay in DC and vote – as one would expect if war is impending.”

This is unmitigated BS.

Harry Reid said on Thursday, 9/25:

The United States Senate

Sep 25, 2007
Section 35

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV): Mr. Chairman, there will be no more
votes tonight. We have tried to work something out on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment and the Biden amendment. We have been unable to do that.

We have been very close a few times, but we have just been informed that Senator Biden will not have a vote anytime in the near future. There will not be a vote on the other one anytime in the near future. We hope tonight will bring more clearness on the issue.

But right now, I think it is fair to say there will be no votes tonight.

Obma probably took him at this word and went off to NH.

Reid flip-flopped the the next morning:

The United States Senate

Sep 26, 2007
Section 4

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV): Mr. President, this morning the Senate will conduct morning business, with the time equally divided and controlled between the two sides, with the majority controlling the first half hour.

We are working hard to come up with an agreement on how we can dispose of the Biden and Kyl amendments. We were very close to being there several times yesterday, but we are still not there. Once we reach an agreement, Members will be notified of when the votes will occur.

By around noon, the vote took place, leaving insufficient time for Obama to scramble from NH to DC.

The United States Senate

Sep 26, 2007
Section 19

Webb’s opposition to the bill:

Sen. Jim Webb [D-VA]: Mr. President, I have grave concerns about this amendment. I spoke at length on the floor yesterday about them. We have never characterized an entity of a foreign government as a foreign terrorist organization. If we are saying that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is conducting terrorist activities, what we are saying, in effect, is that the Revolutionary Guard is conducting military activities against us. This has the danger of becoming a de facto authorization for military force against Iran.

We have not had one hearing. I recommended yesterday that the amendment be withdrawn so we can consider it in the appropriate committees. I oppose passage at this time in the hope that we can get further discussion.

I yield the floor.

“In fact, he couldn’t even be bothered to make a public statement. That is, until the new poll came out showing Hillary at 50.”

Nonsense. Obama issued his positing that same night:

Obama: No on Kyl-Lieberman

Senator Obama clearly recognizes the serious threat posed by Iran. However, he does not agree with the president that the best way to counter that threat is to keep large numbers of troops in Iraq, and he does not think that now is the time for saber-rattling towards Iran. In fact, he thinks that our large troop presence in Iraq has served to strengthen Iran – not weaken it. He believes that diplomacy and economic pressure, such as the divestment bill that he has proposed, is the right way to pressure the Iranian regime. Accordingly, he would have opposed the Kyl-Lieberman amendment had he been able to vote today.

Shorter: Obama got backdoored by none other than Senator Harry Reid, you know, the guy who has made a mockery of himself, his position, and his party.  I wonder if any of this might have to do with Harry Reid’s son campaigning for Hillary…  nah, that would be to tinfoil hattish.

No matter what color a person is, who could vote for a man whose initials are B.O. and who has purple lips. That’s right. Purple lips! Take a good dead on look at this “dreamboat” of the left the next time you see him giving a speech. This Obama character likes to invoke the names of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, as if he’s heir apparent to the inner-city civil rights throne.

And read why Obama was crowned “Asshole of the Month” in December 2006.

Prevent America from having a good case of B.O., pass on this message.
