Fair Winds and Following Seas, Cap’t

I have a dirty little secret.  There aren’t many movement-conservative/Republican bloggers I enjoy reading, and usually I only link to them in order to disagree with them and/or hurl insults at them.

I would like to split the difference here and cut the libertarians out of the above statement.  I’ve always been fond of Sully, Raw Dawg Buffalo is one of my favorite reads, as is Mark’s Publius Endures.  No, I’m talking about the wingnut brigade here.

But it seems that even in a storm one can find a calm and even voice, and for me that was Captain Ed.  Now, before anyone gets out of control, this is not to say I agree with Ed Morrissey an awful lot, I don’t, but that’s not to say that I haven’t developed a kind of respect for this particular conservative blogger.

In a sphere of blogs full of spit and venom, Morrissey always struck me with the impression that he respects folks, even if he disagrees with them vehemently.  Sure, he’s written things here and there that have me ready to toss my laptop accross the room, but that’s not a special trait anymore given the nature of this primary season.

Beyond these hiccups, Ed has become one of the very few conservative bloggers I will read on a regular basis.  I appreciate the general respect he seems to treat folks, even those on an opposing ideological side as he, and the civility he generally keeps in a national debate that is quick to take things way too far.

So, it’s kind of mixed news for me to hear that Ed has been picked up to write for Hot Air.  Hot Air would be one of those blogs I tend to steer clear of, and given his relocation there I predict I will read far less of that blogger.  On the other hand, you want to wish well those whom you respect.

Given the fact that it was his general civility that made me something of a regular reader of Captain Ed, I will eschew the negativity and simply offer my congratulations.  Fair Winds and Following Seas, Captain.

I’ll have to second this one. I may not agree with Mr. Morrissey on a great many things but that’s not going to stop me from offering congratulations.

Good luck in your new adventures Captain.

I know this is an old post of yours, but I was shocked to read that your post is almost identical to the post I just made when I found out about the Cap’n’s move.
As a post mortem, it’s worth pointing out that it seems the tenor of the others at Hot Air has gotten modestly more civil since he joined up (emphasis on “modestly”).
