Is Rush Losing It?

There’s a whole lotta Derangement Syndrome going on.  You got your Hillary Derangement Syndrome (guilty as charged), and Obama Derangement Syndrome (what’s wrong with you people?  Seriously).  There’s Huck Derangment Syndrome (well deserved), and of course virus-zero, Bush Derangement Syndrome (also well deserved).

But the outbreak that seems most rampant right about now is that provided by McCain Derangement Syndrome.  Now if we are to study McDS effectively, we need to focus on the patient who is in perhaps the most advanced stage of the ailment: Rush Limbaugh.

Symptom: Delirium

To be honest, not being a guy who has spent much time studying psychological maladies, I can’t be sure if I have this one pinned down just right, but it’s pretty clear some of the wires in Rush’s brain have failed to fire.  Not after declaring that neither Obama nor Clinton would surrender our country.

“They are not going to surrender the country to Islamic radicalism or the war in Iraq,” Mr. Limbaugh said after mentioning the two Democratic senators by name. “They are not going to do that to themselves, despite what their base says.”

Whoa, Rush.  Let’s not go nuts here.  That’s coming awfully close to sounding as though you aren’t taking potshots at Democrats.  Are you okay?  Someone should check for elevated temperature or something.  Here’s the funny thing, and if there’s any of  you out there that at least check in on Rush every once in a while just to see what kind of bloated spew is coming out of his mouth, I want to see how long it will be before Rush goes back and actually declares that Obama or Hillary will in fact surrender this country to radical Islam.

I don’t think he’s going to be able to hold out for very long.

Symptom: Paranoia

Not only is it enough to discount McCains conservative street creds, now Rush Limbaugh must build a conspiracy, at the heart of which McCain is acting as the malevolent puppet master, pulling on hapless Bob Dole’s strings and making him defend the Arizona Senator.  Dole’s defense, of course, has nothing to do with his personal feelings about the race, or how the conservative media is treating McCain, and everything to do with the fact that HE’S BEEN BRAINWASHED!

We must research this, someone go call a whacked out doctor to feed LSD to unwitting patients to see if we can reproduce the effect (I’m sure Rush would be a very willing volunteer).

This one is kind of tricky, though, to pin on McDS given that Rush has been prone to believe in conspiracies in the past, especially malevolent conspiracies on behalf of the “criminal liberal media”.  But given that the paranoia has now been directed towards the Republican frontrunner, I think it’s safe to say that we can attribute the heightened state to McDS.

Symptom: Delusions of Grandeur

Yet another symptom difficult to pin solely on McDS given the fact that for decades now Rush has given the impression that he poops gold plated awesomeness and is in fact the leader of the free world.  Further, I’ve heard from time to time Rush refusing to run for president based on the fact that doing so would be essentially a step down.

But come on, that’s just his schtick, right?  No… like a cockroach, Rush outlasts everything, including a PR battle with John McCain.  Now granted, I will give Rush credit for having an audience that is roughly hundreds of thousands of times bigger than mine, but that doesn’t make one invincible.

Further, I will also admit that he’s likely to survive his little crusade with McCain, even if McCain wins by as broad a majority as polls are currently showing.  But it’s kind of sad that someone who has so much “power” throws all of it at ruining one guy’s presidential aspirations and fails completely.

That’s just… well… pathetic.

Is Rush losing it?  Is he doomed to succumb to the deadly effects of McDS?  Anything’s possible, unfortunately these self important blow hards are naturally innoculated against Derangement Syndrome’s deadliest symptoms.  They’re body’s defence?  An overwhelming and undeserving sense of self importance, an incredibly short and selective memory, and the ability to lie and either believe it or simply not care.

Diagnosis: Infected, but tragically, not fatal.

I think this is all briar patch talk from the right. Some of them may legitimately hate McCain but it seems to me that he’s loving this since it positions him as a maverick and a centrist and separate from the talk radio scum. This concerns me a great deal since I really don’t want a President McCain.
