And I have seen enough bigots to know that you, E, don't know your head from your ass (or your A from you Z, if you prefer.)

Should have known the trolls who choose to comment on this would be lacking in basic reading comprehension skills.

Let me spell out the primary point of my post:

At some point, Aqsa’s father (and, in the capacity as accessory after the fact, brother) made the choice to kill a female family member.

Why?

At this point we really don’t know.

That culture/religion is automatically assumed to be the motive behind the murder (largely based on breathless repetition of schoolyard rumours) serves as an interesting Rorschach test.

I'll do my best to avoid falling back on Hannah Arendt references.

Honor killings have everything to do with Islam and Arab culture. It matters not that the misogyny in question preexisted. It matters not that Western culture has its own misogyny.

Many MANY passages in the Koran call for the death of women in the manner that Aqsa Parvez met her own death.

I used to espouse different ideas, but now I have seen enough victims of this practice to know that you mattbastard, are way off the mark on this one. Way off!

Maybe lay people don't know how Aqsa Parvez died, but it's obvious to one with a highly experienced eye that it was a dishonor killing. And dishonor killings are distinctly different from other forms of domestic violence, though all of them are horrid.

This particular blog post has so many factual errors and misunderstandings about dishonor killings that I scarcely know how to respond, except to recommend a very good site on the subject:

www.stophonourkillings.com

There is a thread in the discussion section about what these crimes are and what they aren't.
