But if he catches on, should he face Clinton, you can expect every question and criticism to be, "Look, we both voted for it, I'm the one that stands by my commitments..." .... Oh god, that really is all he has to do. That's probably what he was planning on doing. Iraq can go to 10% approval overall and that's all he has to say to beat Clinton. Damn, comment got eaten.

He can't move away from the war without the risk of losing GOP votes, but Iraq will continue it's downward spiral. (Dare I say just wait six months and see?) So McCain's support of the war may cause independents to move away from him.
