Malice isn’t always unwarranted and, in the case of Falwell, I’d say it’s perfectly acceptable. When a person makes it their business in life to foment hatred and division people really shouldn’t be all that surprised when it’s visited upon them at their death.

For the record, and I mentioned to this a few times in private, this is not malicious intent, it was just what came to mind when I heard the news. Kind of like how I chuckled when I found out about how Douglass Adams died. Or even how my dad’s dad died. Stuff that’s not appropriate to say at a funeral…

…but maybe something you say as you lift a beer in honor of the passed on.

Okay, with my dad’s dad, there might be some malicious intent there, but… oh nevermind.

Now, with Falwell, had I let my mouth open up at all, that would have been undeniably malicious. Hence the not saying anything at all.

I think he strayed way off course from his original civil rights positions. As a poster on another site said, I’m sorry, but I’m all out of love for those of his ilk.
