So what is Pelosi's excuse ?

From the article:

"But Republicans said Democrats were only hurting American workers, arguing that the agreement would level the playing field by eliminating duties on American-made goods entering Colombia, which already has significant duty-free access to the United States."

Colombia already exports goods into the U.S. without undue tariffs on them. All this agreement does is allow for the same with U.S. goods being exported to Colombia. It allows for more of our goods to be produced that can be exported, thus helping out our own economy. It also means more U.S. people can be hired to produce those goods, another thing good for the struggling economy. It's a win-win for the U.S. if it happens now.

The agreement was signed 16 months ago, after Democrats won control of Congress. And they've been sitting on it since. Pelosi knows the deal would be of benefit to Americans and the U.S. economy, as does every Democrat who voted with Pelosi. Any idea that Pelosi just wants to make sure it passes is garbage. Pelosi is simply playing politics because that is all she knows how to do. The only other motive Pelosi could have is to somehow worsen the economy and get the Democrat media to blame it on the Bush administration; that is, wreck the economy for votes. It's far-fetched, but I wouldn't put it past her.
