Derbyshire on Expelled
Created: April 28th, 2008 | Written By: Kyle E. Moore
John Derbyshire has said a lot of things that, to put it mildly, I vehemently disagree with. Even in this post I take issue with a few of the things he says, but I also have to LOVE the disdain towards Intelligent Design coming from the other end of the political spectrum for a change.

I agree that it’s nice to see, but he starts out with a baldfaced (and racist) lie - if any one civilization can lay claim to the origin of the scientific method, it is the Arabs. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_al-Haytham
But you’re right, I’m sick to death of the whole “Expelled” mindset and it’s nice to see some rationality from the other side.
You know, that was the first thing to jump to my mind; the Arabs who, in case some folks forgot, also invented ALGEBRA. I know, I know, it’s a math, not a science, but still, you get where I’m going with this.
Ugh. As someone who failed Math for Liberal Arts majors twice (don’t ask), why would anyone be PROUD of inventing algebra? You know, a I tell my history students, Dante put the inventors of geometry and algebra in hell for a reason!
:)
Anyway, say what you will about Derb, and you can say alot, he has always been quite harsh on Chrsitianists and the anti-evolution folks.
Atheist libertarians are underrated. We don’t even believe in the religion of leftist economics.
Disagree with him as much as I do, there is no one more entertaining to read than the Great Curmudgeon. Whatever else you might think of his positions, it’s tough to deny that he is:
A. Honest; and
B. Amusing
One thing, though, for Neodarwin: I’m not sure that I’d call the Derb a libertarian (if I did, then I couldn’t call myself one). A paleocon, to be sure, but not a libertarian. Not that that makes him any less worth reading.
