I am planning on contributing approximately $2k to McCain once the Campaign heats up. Most libs are going to have contribution fatigue once the primary season is done. All those 10's of millions squandered on around-the clock advertisements to fight Hillary. :)

McCain = centrist, experienced, hero
BO = socialist, reparations, zero

Who do you think the center of this country is going to gravitate to?

I think your second point is the one most at play here. With a helpful dollop of point three. The public fundraising is a kind of what the campaign is likely to be resort to.

Fact is, people aren't excited about McCain's run, and I would say more but I need to rush into the office and hope there's not much going on so I can get a lot of blogging done tonight. Lots of good stories.

I wonder if there are three things at play here, in McCain's apparent difficulties raising money:

First, the whole public financing issue. He hasn't resolved the issue regarding funding for the primary, so that may be depressing donations.

Second, his heart just doesn't seem to be in any of this -- fundraising, campaigning, etc. I just don't see any clear plan of approach in what he's doing. He starts in on something, but then doesn't see it through. I sometimes wonder if anyone is excited about his candidacy, in part because he doesn't seem to be excited about it.

Third, there's nothing for him to fundraise about yet. If his entire candidacy is going to be about being the anti-Democrat, then the fact that no clear frontrunner has been acknowledged yet on the Democratic side doesn't give him anything to rev up the donors about.

Just a few wacky thoughts. . .

Also note that McCain has said since last year that he'll accept public funding and the Republican National Committee, which can support its nominee, continues to outraise the DNC significantly.

Obama 2007, Via Washington Post:

"AS RECENTLY as November, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was unequivocal about whether he would agree to take public financing for the general election if his Republican opponent pledged to do the same. "If you are nominated for president in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forgo private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in the presidential public financing system?" the Midwest Democracy Network asked in a questionnaire. Mr. Obama's answer was clear. "Yes," he wrote. "If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.""

John McCain will accept public funding, which limits spending to about $87 million. Now that Obama sees the loads coming in, will he break his promise? You can bet that Obama's public funding promise, considering McCain will accept it, won't be forgotten.
