Suicide Rate in Army Continues To Go Up
I found this video at the Chicago Tribune while I was researching my post below about anti-U.S. street demonstrations in Iraq. We have read and heard about military suicides all too many times before, but it does not get less upsetting.
I tried to embed the video but it doesn’t work, so just go to the text link and you can watch it from there.

This is what Iraqis think about a permanent U.S. military presence in Iraq:
Sphere: Related ContentThousands of Iraqis filled the streets of Baghdad’s Sadr City neighborhood this afternoon to demonstrate against a long-term United States presence in Iraq, the first significant anti-American rally in the massive Shiite slum in more than two years.
As American helicopters hovered overhead, young and old men and even children flowed out of their weekly Friday prayers and began burning American flags and chanting “no, no to America” and “yes, yes to independence.”

Overly Law-Minded Judge at Gitmo Is Fired
The chief judge in charge of Guantanamo ‘war crimes trials’ has summarily fired one of the trial judges, Army Col. Peter Brownback III, after Brownback refused to set a trial date in the case of a Canadian detainee because the prosecution was refusing to provide the detainee’s defense counsel with his medical and interrogation records. The LAT article about the dismissal suggests that it was motivated in part by the government’s strong desire to fast-track the show trials for political reasons:

Okay, Friday’s are supposed to be reserved for me working on my… ahem… novel, but I just couldn’t resist posting this: Obama’s kicking off his general election campaign at the site of the GOP’s national convention.
Oh this is going to be such a fun election.
Lulz…

In an pretty crappy op-ed piece for the Boston Globe titled “Healing the wounds of Democrats’ sexism” (where, ironically enough, she doesn’t point out an examples of sexism on the campaign but demands that a study be undertaken to explore the issue), race-baiter and Hillary supporter Geraldine Ferraro has this to say on the thoughts of Reagan Democrats (ie: the white, working class folk voting for Hillary) concerning racism:
…If you’re white you can’t open your mouth without being accused of being racist. They see Obama’s playing the race card throughout the campaign and no one calling him for it as frightening. They’re not upset with Obama because he’s black; they’re upset because they don’t expect to be treated fairly because they’re white. It’s not racism that is driving them, it’s racial resentment.
Racism and racial resentment… Well slap my monkey silly, I didn’t know there was a difference between the two! And how exactly do these Reagan Democrats think they are going to be treated unfairly for being white? Will an Obama administration round up all the white folk, throw them into ghettos, pay dick for the education of their children, and not care about the chemicals polluting their environment? Haha! Who am I kidding? That’s all silly talk. Of course none of that ever happens, and if it did and it were discussed, we would never accuse those pointing out these issues as being guilty of racism just for pointing out racism!

Damn it, I don’t even like donuts. But because I’m highly susceptible to suggestion, and I can’t get away from the stupid Rachael Ray story, I’m all of a sudden making emergency runs to the 7-Eleven to pick up Boston cream and chocolate eclairs. Just what me and my belly needed.

Corrente is another blog that has become virtually unreadable as of late, however there is a glimmer of hope. Hypnot posts what strikes me as one of the sanest blog posts about the coming end of the Democratic party, though the mastication in the comments section has already begun.
Pity.

At this stage of the game, Hillary Clinton has only two real arguments left. One is that she is the popular vote leader; an argument that in and of itself is built upon so much dishonesty that you can actually feel your integrity rotting away as you entertain it. The other is this idea that Clinton will, based upon polls and primary performance, do better against McCain in the general election.

I’ll be completely honest; White House Press Secretary has to be one of the crappiest jobs you can have as one of the President’s senior staffers. The RNC has decided to take Obama to task for not learning about our little country of occupation first hand. Because Obama’s gone over two years without visiting Iraq, the GOP are siezing upon that fact to try and humiliate him on foreign policy.
My question: Why? It’s not like visiting Iraq has made John McCain much of an expert on our presence in the Middle East.
