Something Light for a Saturday Night: Mac’s Recommendations

More often than not, the digital age has brought me to the point where I download a few or even just one song from most new releases. Yet, as a hardcore music fan, there still is nothing better than coming across a great album that you can listen to from beginning to end. I recently came across three great albums that are, as Sum 51 aptly stated, “all killer, no filler.”

Let me give you just a taste of each.

Hold On Now, Youngster is the new disc Los Campesinos! and here’s “You! Me! Dancing.”

For those that already don’t know, I sure love me some alt-country. Tift Merritt’s Another Country will definitely be in my year end top 10. Check out “Broken.”

Finally, Portland, Oregon’s Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks have released a masterpiece in Real Emotional Trash. Great drum work from Janet Weiss, formerly of Sleater Kinney. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be an official video for this album yet. Thankfully, a fan threw together a still pic slideshow for the song “Gardenia.”
