You folks should know that this basic technique has been in use by cybercrooks for the last two years at minimum, to perform “search engine optimization”, to put in attacks against vulnerable web clients with malicious Javascript and VBscript, and to link to malware booby-traps at third party locations.

Blog and community website comments are an obvious vector for XSS attacks, and one that’s been actively exploited for quite some time.

What we’re seeing here is merely the diffusion of this technique from one branch of organized crime to another.
