Beyond Barack Obama, for I truly think that if it were Hillary Clinton as the nominee, that the opposition, and the MSM Press (as they proved themselves during the Primary), would have been equally as brutal and dismissive of her for being female and for being the wife of Bill, who was, co-incidentally the first President that the modern Republican party attempted to demonize as being elitist and "not one of us." (Everyone should read J.Chait's fine essay on this very subject over at the Huff-PO) Bill Clinton managed to be far tougher than the smear-meisters had anticipated, however, they did manage to paint the Democrats as spendy preverts who were "out of touch" with "normal" American Values. They accomplished this by being preposterously over the top and appealing to every bit of bigotry that some Americans nurse even into the 21st Century (foremost among them, my pet peeve: the fear of the Intelligent, but I digress.)

The elections of 2000, and 2004 have proved that the gullible (and, it must be said, low information) Voters bought this grotesque Republican Narrative especially in some areas in the Country, those notorious "fly-over" States, and the South that have, truth be told, been ignored by the Democratic intelligensia (and, as Obama noted in his oft misquoted "Bitter" comments, have been ill used by Government over the last few decades) How ironic it is that the Republican Party, mostly made up of the Rich and Big Business, have sold themselves to the peasants, who, I'm sure judging by their hurtful policies, they secretly eschew as average, to use O'Reilly's favorite code word "the folks" (the white, disaffected, working class for whom the fear is that somehow they won't get "theirs." and if they do, that the "Liberals" will take it from them by force.) The Conservatives have counterintuitively won the votes of people drowning under debt (most of it encouraged by bad policy passed into law during recent Republican Administrations such as the striking down of the Usury Law in the 80's that has allowed the Credit Business to run amoke, and, of course the Bush Bankruptcy Law, written by Lobbyists that harms working Families, etc.)

If Obama cannot make the case that working class Americans will be hurt by at least another 4 years of the so called "trickle down" economics that always seems to just trickle up, Bushian Policy , and that they MUST vote for him despite whatever reservations that they have over his blackness, then I truly fear for the future of this Country.
