Just When You Thought He Couldn’t Go Lower

At this point I think it is safe to say that we haven’t seen John McCain hit rock bottom just yet.  Still, I keep getting this feeling that, okay, there’s no way John can get any lower.  And then he actually does just that.

By now, if you’re reading this blog, you have already seen the well documented hate that has been popping up at McCain rallies.  McCain supporters have called Obama “Terrorist,” have accused him of “Treason,” and have yelled, “Kill him!” and “Off with his head!”  One unfortunate African American sound man with the press caught a little back splash hate at one McCain event when a white supporter turned and told him, “Sit down, boy!”

You’ve heard that and more, leading many, including some of the saner conservative voices out there, to suggest that McCain is acting irresponsibly, and putting his Democratic opponent in greater peril than he is already in.  At the very least, a responsible candidate would cease whipping his supporters into such a violent frenzy.  But at this stage, there are at least some of us who feel that McCain needs to address these supporters directly, you know, for the good of the country.

Well, McCain is addressing the issue… by defending the hate-filled mobs.  Seriously, I’m not there yet, but I’m slowly beginning to wonder if McCain isn’t hoping that one of these people actually ups and assassinates Obama.  I don’t want to believe this, but the continued inaction on McCain’s behalf, and this new bewildering move, are breaking down my resolve.

Maybe 40 years from now, presidential candidates will be attacked for having associated with John McCain.
