Liveblogging the Vice Presidential Debate

Well, we are just an hour from the debate starting time, so it’s a good time to go ahead and get this shindig underway.

Remember, so long as you keep the profanity down to a minimum, and you aren’t a spammer, we welcome everyone to go ahead and join us.  All of the liveblogging takes place in the comments section.

  1. Holy Crap! I don’t think Bible Spice saw Biden bringing up McCain’s vote against troop funding coming.

  2. Kathy says:

Oh, a white flag of surrender! She is totally out of touch with what Americans want. That was not a good thing to say.

  3. Palin, “Your plan is a white flag of surrender.”

  4. soshua says:

“i had gotten to get….” he is so well spoken…huh?

  5. Biden is now riffing on all the times McCain was wrong, recalling Obama’s litany against McCain in the first debate.

  6. tas says:

Palin is such a lying sack of wet teabags.

  7. And now Biden is going after McCain saying the War on Terror is in Iraq, and is rightfully focused in Pakistan. And he’s sounding great here. He’s doing a great job right here but he needs to cut himself off so Bible Spice can answer.

  8. tas says:

Iran — still not close to obtaining a nuke. When will Republicans admit that?

  9. Kathy says:

N-U-C-L-E-A-R. Why is that so hard to say?

  10. I hate it when people go after Ahmadinejad, he’s neither the most powerful leader in Iran, nor does he have control over the military.

  11. tas says:

Wait, she agrees with Kissenger — the same Kissenger who said that we should meet with dictators without preconditions?

  12. soshua says:

Biden comes off as a holier-than-thou jerk. I am still waiting for him to say something that I haven’t already heard in the first debate. Did he borrow Obama’s responses???

  13. Kathy says:

She wouldn’t know the Holocaust from a toaster. That comparison is so offensive to me. I want to slap her face, hard.

  14. Again, on Israel, Palin says nothing but gibberish… I mean, I’m having a real hard time figuring out exactly what it is she just said.

  15. tas says:

Hey Palin, goodl uck negotiating a two state solutiion in Israel when Netanyahu is prime minister — a distinct possibllity of happening (again) soon.

  16. radical_Moderate says:

EveEvening all. Could Palin be any more robotic? Good memorization skills, however, although she went back to speaking gibberish on the Global Warming answer. Biden hits the right note between aggression and condescension…I actually think that Biden is a better debator than Obama.

  17. Kathy says:

LOL, she just got thru saying she supports all the policies of the present administration, and now she wants us to believe a McCain admin would be different?

  18. Holy crap! She’s saying nothing, absolutely nothing! She’s delivering a stump speech. And she’s said “maverick” now at least three times.

  19. Dynamic says:

THIS is perfect. I haven’t heard how it’s going to be different from George Bush’s plans… that’s perfect. Great shot Joe!

  20. soshua says:

Biden should be a better at this than Obama…he’s done this for longer than Obama has been alive.

  21. Kathy says:

No, we’re bombing and killing civilians.

  22. “CAN WE TALK ABOUT AFGHANISTAN A LITTLE BIT TOO?”

She’s all over the place here.

    Like…

    such as.

  23. Joe is doing a really great job, and there have been at least three responses in which Palin just kind of jumbled together scraps of stump speeches.

  24. Ooh, and Palin is getting pissed off.

  25. Kathy says:

Soshua, Barack Obama is 47 years old. Joe Biden is 65 years old. The only way Biden could have been doing what he’s doing now since before Obama was born, would be if he started when he was 18. You wanna back off, or not?

  26. “Washington Outsider”

    drink

  27. Kathy says:

Yeah, it’s called changing your mind in response to new realities. Idiot.

  28. soshua says:

My point is that Biden has had a much longer history in doing this than Obama. Most people retire at 65…Obama should be getting warmed up.

How about backing off Palin a little. Is anyone in here for any other reason than to bash her tonight?

  29. radical_Moderate says:

Of course, her supporters won’t realize that most of what she is talking about she has either memorized, or is reading from que cards, sigh…she is doing better than in the interviews; her handlers wrote her plenty of snark which is what the Republican reptiles crave alas.

  30. tas says:

How the teabag does McCain know how to win a war?

  31. I agree Radical. But I also think there have been at least three answers that were just absolutely non sense. I mean it gets hard trying to follow her answers sometimes.

  32. “a team of mavericks”? Really?

  33. Reality Wasilla main street? Right so America should be the meth capital of the world and run up even larger debts?

  34. Dynamic says:

😆 Soshua, we’re not here to bash her. We’re simply sitting back and enjoying as she bashes her chances with her non-answers. We don’t need to do any bashing ourselves. What’s a little snark among friends?

  35. Actually, I’m here to bash her…

    Just so we’re clear.

  36. dog gone it?

    there ya go joe?

    Are you serious?

  37. Dynamic says:

On her behalf, I do think that was a pretty nice touch, shouting out to the third graders. That’s pretty cool.

  38. Is it me or did she just try to repeat Reagan’s big catch phrase?

  39. Kathy says:

If your point is that Biden has been “doing this” longer than Obama, you should have said that. You didn’t say that. And btw, I think we all know that Biden is older than Obama. What may not be as well known is that McCain is older than Biden. So why is he making such a fool of himself?

How about backing off Obama a bit, Soshua? This is a liberal, Obama-supporting blog. *You* came to *us.* We’re not on *your* blog.

  40. She does realize that in the role as “President of the Senate” that’s only for tie breakers, right?

  41. Note: Fact check on Palin. From Talking Points Memo: Palin referred to the Army commander in Afghanistan as General McClellan. Actually, the commander is David McKiernan.

  42. Kathy says:

    God, he’s a straight-shooter. I love that.

  43. Also, concerning that point of time, here’s the article where MCKIERNAN agreed with what Biden said:

    http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20081002/news_1n2afghan.html

  44. tas says:

I would love if Biden said here that her achilles heel is not answering questions.

  45. Note, what Palin is doing now: Palin was asked what her achilles heel was, and she went in the exact opposite direction and went on a drool inducing litany of her strengths. That was intentional.
