Look Him in the Eye and Say It, Buddy

Joe Biden calls bullshit on John McCain:

Joe Biden echoed the campaign’s response to continued Republican efforts to highlight Obama’s past associations, adding a personal touch to the idea that McCain wasn’t willing to make the attacks in person.

“All of the things they said about Barack Obama in the TV, on the TV, at their rallies, and now on YouTube … John McCain could not bring himself to look Barack Obama in the eye and say the same things to him,” Biden said this morning. “In my neighborhood, when you’ve got something to say to a guy, you look him in the eye and you say it to him.”

And in the little town of Bethlehem, peace and love reign:

John McCain and Sarah Palin were backstage, and Lehigh County GOP Chairman Bill Platt was warming up the crowd of 6,000 at a rally here for the Republican ticket.

“Think about how you’ll feel on November 5 if you wake up in the morning and see the news, that Barack Obama — that Barack Hussein Obama — is the president-elect of the United States,” Platt said. The audience at the Lehigh University arena booed at the thought of it.

“The number one most liberal senator in the United States of America was, you guessed it, the ambassador of change, Barack Hussein Obama,” he added. “This election is about preserving America’s past and protecting the promise of its future.”

I just want you all to know that Bill Platt was raised to be polite and say a person’s entire name. I know someone is going to say that Platt included Obama’s middle name to suggest that:

  • Obama is a terrorist because he has the same middle name as the former leader of Iraq, whom everyone with half a brain knows collaborated with Al Qaeda to plan 9/11.
  • Obama is a Muslim, which means he’s a terrorist.
  • Obama hates America, because all Muslims hate America, and they’re foreign, and they’re icky.
  • Obama is. not. one. of. us.

But no one believes that Obama is a terrorist, just because of his middle name. Everyone knows he was born in 1961, long before Saddam Hussein held any position of power. What reason would Platt have to believe that anyone in that audience would associate Obama with Saddam Hussein, just because they share a name?

One Response to “Look Him in the Eye and Say It, Buddy”

  1. Margaret says:

I have had this on my mind since the Obama/McCain debate #2. How come not much was said about McCain’s huge gaffe when he responded to Tom Brokaw but called him “Katie” instead of “Tom?”

This, to me, is a huge red flag. I mean, it’s understandable for older people to be forgetful but when you make such an obvious mistake in front of the American public, it indicates there may be a problem. As an employee of a 76 year old boss, I know firsthand when someone is too old to do their job. McCain’s cognitive functioning should certainly be questioned. Mind you, I’m not saying he shouldn’t run because he’s too old. I’m just worried what else he might forget if elected president.
