Quick Programming Note

Great news!  I have election day off, so here are my plans for election day (yes, I know you really don’t care about my schedule much, but trust me, there’s some important stuff here)

6:30am-4:00pm – volunteer at Obama headquarters

4:05pm-buy beer

4:30pm make dinner

5pm-get kids so wife can vote

6pm-feed kids

7pm-put kids to bed

7:30pm-put kids to bed again after they play for fifteen minutes when they are not supposed to, and then come out to inform me that they both need to go potty.

8pm-liveblog the election whilst getting drunk!

Yes, I will be liveblogging the election, and for the first time in our liveblogging history, I will be drinking as we do so.  This liveblogging will go very much like our debate liveblogs in that most of the liveblogging will occur in the comments section of the official post.  The one difference is that as major developments arise, I will update the main body, including changes in the electoral vote count.

So, I hope you’ll join us two weeks from tonight, after you’ve gone and voted yourself, of course!  See you there!

  1. I am so glad that you received the day off! My husband (also a teacher) and I have been trying to schedule our election day, as well.

My quandry is that 3 of my kids attend the school at which I teach. My plan, as of this morning, is to cart them with me to my polling place early in the morning. It should prove interesting.

  2. No, that’s a great thing. My wife takes our kids with her every time she votes, and I think that’s an important thing for them to see. My daughters, 2 and 4, both also know who the president is, and who the two challengers to be the next president are. So this is a great great thing. Anyway, hopefully you’ll come join us on election night, I plan on getting stupid drunk and having fun!

I actually got a call from Obama’s West Orange (NJ) office, and I will be driving voters to the polls on Election Day!

  4. YAY KATHY!!!!!

I don’t know what I’ll be doing, but I hope I’ll be driving voters, that will at least give me a chance to listen to NPR all day long, and spend most of the day in my car which I love. Thanks for covering some stories by the way, I’ve been getting myself caught up in one conversation after another here at work, and now I only have an hour and a half before I have to start getting some work done.

I’ll be working as an election judge all day (an homage to my recently deceased father). Polls close in Illinois at 7pm and, if all goes well with the closing procedures, I should be home and able to join the festivities by 8pm (central time). I’ll probably start drinking as soon as I walk in the house (let me tell you, fourteen-plus hours makes for a very long day!), so I’m giving you all fair warning that the quality of my typing and writing is likely to degrade pretty quickly.

  6. Is no problem, I’m an eloquent drunk, and a paragon to boot.

I’ll type good for all of us!
