From her column (this is also the point where I stopped reading it):

In his desire to channel the character of Lincoln and create a team of rivals on his cabinet, Obama may be willing to overlook the array of conflict-of-interest issues posed by the rivals he vanquished.

I don't get these media constructs on Obama. When the hell did Obama ever say, or imply, that he would mimic Lincoln's method of cabinet building? if this were truly Obama's intention, he'd skip Hillary and go right to either McCain or Palin for the Secretary of State nomination. Speaking strictly in partisan terms, that's what Lincoln did -- though in terms of competency of today's conservative crop of politicians, if we were going through a Civil War today and if Lincoln were president, none of these chuckleheads would be considered for so much as national dog shit collector.

I wish columnists wouldn't base their points off bullshit they seemingly make up. And I wish editors wouldn't allow this bullshit into the arena of public debate; at least not without a note saying "I dunno what the fuck this columnist is talking about."

Anyways, different time periods call for different measures of government building, obviously. Lincoln nominated competent rivals of his even if they disagreed because he need to keep America united. FDR had his own team of rivals during World War II: he knew he to get the corporations involved to win the war so he brought their CEOs into his meetings, cabinet, etc. And Obama's facing this era's crises. It's the incompetency of the Republicans that got us into this mess, I don't see where a "team of rivals" makes sense right now. While fucking everything up, these conservative assholes sure didn't let us into government. So fuck them and their "Obama muust govern from the center right" crapola. They're out of power now -- where they belong. Where they deserve to be.
