Democracy Can Be So Inconvenient Sometimes
I was reading the New York Times article titled “Israeli Troops Advance, Bisecting Gaza,” when I came upon this line:
Since seizing control of the territory a year and a half ago, Hamas has been able to smuggle in more and better weapons.
In fact, Hamas did not “seize control” of Gaza. Hamas was chosen by the people of Gaza in a democratic election that was supervised and monitored by international observers. No one to my knowledge has questioned that it was a free and fair election.
