Barack Obama Is Back

Earlier today, I had some critical words for Pres. Obama’s op-ed in the Washington Post. It was a fine op-ed; I didn’t disagree with anything Obama said in it — but I felt it was too tepid, not fiery enough.

Well, I am thrilled to come back and point to a speech Obama gave tonight at a retreat attended by Democratic lawmakers in Williamsburg, Virginia. Among his remarks, there was this gem, directed toward the idea that the stimulus package has too much government spending in it: “What do you think a stimulus is? […] It’s spending — that’s the whole point! Seriously.”

It’s even better when you hear it, as I did on a news clip earlier. His tone was utterly incredulous, and when he got to, “…that’s the whole point!” the audience cracked up.

That particular quote is not on the video below, but a lot of other good stuff is. Click the weird-looking link to get to the video player.

  1. Here, Kathy! I spammed your trackback–I’m not giving traffic to a PUMA site. But I’ll leave you a comment so you can feel special anyway. Was it good? I’m hoping it was good.

  2. Kathy says:

Aw, it’s always good with you, Kyle.

  3. Kathy says:

Just answer me one thing, Kyle. What do you mean, you spammed my trackback? I know what a PUMA is, but what trackback?

  4. A PUMA blog linked to this post and left a trackback. I got rid of it and spammed it so it hopefully doesn’t happen again.

  5. Kathy says:

    Oh, okay. Got it now.
