It’s not so much that the right wing has an ‘occasional’ whacko, it’s that the right wing seems to harbor and nurture that kind of violent extremism as part of a larger Republican strategy.

I’m not going to go that far unless I have proof. Or, to put it in another way, there’s plenty of Republicans out there who aren’t nuts. But when you advocate gun rights, you’re naturally going to attract the whackos…

What Erickson is talking about goes one step past militant extremism and steps into advocating terrorism. It's not so much that the right wing has an 'occasional' whacko, it's that the right wing seems to harbor and nurture that kind of violent extremism as part of a larger Republican strategy. Erickson appears to be serving a _function_ within the Republican Party that is implicitly sanctioned. Engaging in violent rhetoric over soap.... rhetoric that includes implied threats of hunting elected citizens down.... and Erickson's bit about stroking his guns to protect him from .... what? The recycling police? Wasn’t Redstate’s Erik Erickson part of the Republican Bush blogger outreach program?
