Just when you thought it couldn’t become more stupid [UPDATED]

In light of Obama’s Special Olympics joke on Jay Leno’s show, the Republicans have gone, well..  Do I even need to say it?  How dare the President make such disparaging remarks!  How could he..  blah blah blah.  You’d think with all the outrage that they’re never made fun of a retard in their life, much less based profitable ventures off such activities!

Uhm, yeah.

So, heh, you see, a conservative author kinda published this book called “Celebutards.”  Not only is this book real, but the New York Post allowed its author (whose name I won’t even mention; screw her) to publish a column the week her tome was released since, you know, conservatives loved the book so much they would throw it some free advertising. In the column, she singles out Al Gore as being a retard — excuse me, “celebutard.”

Out of all the conservatards Republican luminaries featured on the front cover glowingly endorsing this book — Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and one Doughy Pantload — how many of them will angerly denounce President Obama’s joke on Leno last night?  All of them, I bet.

You see folks, it’s OK to call somebody a retard if you’re a Republican pundit looking to score a buck.  But if anybody else tries doing it, then they’re just insensitive.  Or retarded.  Or celebutarded.  Or guilty of having a derangement syndrome.  Or what-the-fuck-ever.  But being a  sanctimonious hypocritical prick?  Hey, that’s fine!

Update! Doughy Pantload speaks!

Over at the National Review, Jonah Goldberg has devoted three posts today to Obama’s Special Olympics remark.  Let’s take a fresh breath of faux-outrage!

From a reader:

The participants in Special Olympics depict the true audacity of hope.  To them “hope” is a lifestyle.  To President Obama it is the trite tagline of his continuous and vacuous campaign.

Mr. Pantload felt this email was important enough to publish, yet I woder if Goldberg published any of the emails he received regarding this blog post he made on 1/22/09:

Celebutard Pledge

Readers keep asking where they can find the creepy Obamaphile pledge video I posted the other day since it has been yanked from YouTube. You can still find it here.

Nope, certainly nothing hypocritical here folks! Just move along.

[Note to the editors: I tried putting a break after the first paragraph in this post but it wouldn’t work with the photo.  My apologies.]

  1. David Simmons says:

Anne Coulter *regularly* uses the word ‘retard’ to refer to anyone left of Joseph Stalin, so apparently it’s not insulting to her.

  2. Cheesecake says:

She actually said about Barry’s mis-step: “I actually thought it was pretty funny.”

Stupidity does not pick sides, right or left or center. Neither does intelligence. Trying to paint all people with a broad brush just means the painter doesn’t have much of an argument.

To me, this whole thing is just the latest example of what passes for political commentary today. Each sides pundits and bloggers play “gotcha” with the latest verbal misstep by a political opponent. It’s boring and an intellectually lazy exercise in futility. Politicans are human. Humans say dumb things. Film at 11:00……..

Both sides use it blatently, but have no apparent memory of their own use.

    Utterly pointless.

People living in glass houses should not cast stones. And I’m not going to sit here and be preached to by one side that does exactly. the same. thing.

So don’t tell me I don’t have a fucking argument.

I agree that politicians are human and people say dumb things, but in this instance the dumb things were contemplated, written, published, and proudly extolled for profit. I think there’s a huge difference between that and a verbal miscue.

  5. TED says:

Get serious ALL of you libs, if Bush had done this there would be mobs demanding his resignation and YOU KNOW IT, YOU would be out with torches and pitchforks. THE MEDIA WOULD BE ON IT 24/7. Get off your high horse (as usual) and get real!! All you’re doing here is proving your DOUBLE-STANDARDS! Thanks for putting it ON THE RECORD!

    Goodnight Irene 8-))

  6. Macswain says:

The way Bush exploited 9/11, there should have been mobs. Instead, the media abetted him.

  7. wok3 says:

Yeah, all Bush did was invade the wrong country, allowed al-qaeda to escape and then be so revered that FRANCHISES of the terrorist group took root in more than a few countries, set up illegal wiretapping, approved torture and holding prisoners without any evidence, and help bring about the collapse of the economic world. You tell ’em TED! Stupid libs.

  8. tas says:

Shorter TED: Trashing the global economy and leaving the country to rot is fine, just as along as you don’t call people retarded. Or wait, actually, just as long as you don’t call people retarded — we still can! Yeah!

  9. Dr. Matt says:

Ted, been living under a rock lately? The librul MSM HAS BEEN covering this lame arse “story” 24/7 since the radical right’s fake outrage broke on the internet(s). Seriously, are you pretending to be stupid or are you really this obtuse?
