Well done Jack. They did eventually bend on a few big issues, but you can't deny the animosity between Democrats and GOP Presidents (especially Reagan and Bush2). As an example Democrats did not just fall in line with any tax cut proposals, (JFK cut taxes also) it was a decent fight, lots of bickering on the Dem side. Obama has only been in office a couple of months. GOP opposition means virtually nothing in terms of passing legislation. But good answers, much better than tas or Kathy ... just keeping you straight.

My, how memories are short and selective! Many Dems, among them House Speaker Tip O'Neill, worked on a genuine compromise to get Reagan's tax-cuts passed, they gave overwhelming support to Bush I on the Gulf War, Clinton gave them nearly everything they wanted concerning free trade and deregulation (the only thing he and other Dems wouldn't budge on was privatizing Social Security), and many of the Dems went along with Bush II's tax cuts, passage of the Patriot Act, and the Military Commissions Act. Not once, even when in the minority under Bush II, did the entire Dem House caucus vote to oppose Bush II, as the Repubs did with Obama. Next time, please give me a tough question.

Remember this line "It's the Economy Stupid?" ... this nifty line applies even more today ... Obama's hopscotchin' around the Middle East, Europe, and New York while Rome is burning ...

Jack, can you point out a few examples where Democrats cooperated with Reagan, Bush1 or Bush2?? How about Clinton and the GOP Congress huh?? No animosity or partisanship I suppose ...

Kathy, better just dig in and hunker down for non-stop opposition to and criticism of every move Obama makes until the GOP's back gets completely and deservedly broken in the 2010 election, as will certainly be the case. The current far right brand of Republicanism (which really began with the 1994 mid-term elections) has produced a zero tolerance party of narrow-minded intolerance. Their world view is that if you're not 100% with them, they're 100% against YOU. That's why Clinton seldom got, and Obama will rarely see, any real cooperation from this misewrable group of angry, hateful, frustrated people. They are stonewalling themselves into oblivion.
