Now you see what I mean about the Looney Left .. only Progressives are defending this guy .. as if his movies and art somehow mean its ok for him to drug and rape this girl. Reminds me of ACORN, Progressives didn't even bat an eye over this corruption ... they immediately want to file charges for illegal video rather than look at the substance of this corruption. Progressives seem willing to overlook the most heinous actions to protect one of their own.

I think this is disgusting.
The fact that it is 30 years later should have no sway over anything. The fact that he fled the country and escaped prosecution at the time does not make him any less guilty or make any difference in his punishment, all it means is that he escaped justice and why did it take so long to catch him?
The film community that has started a petition to have him released is disgusting and ignorant. He drugged, sodomized, and raped a 13 year old child.
He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge - a single count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under a plea bargain because of the publicity and because he knows he's guilty. He paid out to the victim over hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to get out of being charged.
I cannot believe there is an outcry over his being arrested. I am stunned there are people willing to forgive his actions. I can understand the victim wanting it all to just go away, but as a society we cannot forgive crimes like this against children. This is not a slap on the wrist type of action. This is a serious offense - the kind people should be put away for life for.
Talking about his clear history since this crime means nothing, he has not served his time for this horrible action.
Moreover, I have not seen anywhere where he has apologized or acknowledged wrongdoing. His comments in an interview in 1979 with novelist Martin Amis show his true colors I believe when he states "Everyone wants to F*** young girls"
Based on his actions and his comments, is this really someone we believe should go free? Is this really someone we think should be forgiven, given a slap on the wrist?

What I would like to know is how seriously will officials take that petition? How can people who oppose him being released get the attention of officials?

Polanski is a child rapist and should not be above the law. Society does not support taking sexual advantage of children. Think about your own children in such an awful situation with an evil man like Polanski. Well done to the American authorities on not giving up on chasing Polanski. The people supporting Polanski and his child rape are a disgrace to themselves.

Throw the bastard in jail! There are many convicted rapists that have just as sad of a story as Polanski. We're not letting them go. There are many convicted rapists that were productive and even prominent members of society. We're not letting them go either. But why is he any different from the average rapist? Because he has a sad Holocaust story or because he has an impressive filmmaking talent? I'm sure other rapists want their day in court to argue their worth to society in comparison to ruining the life of another human being. He's a crimnal plain and simple and this has been ignored way too long!

And what's with all these other actors advocating for his release. He confessed he raped the girl! That is never okay, I don't care who you are!

There are some things I can't believe there's debate about... The TalkLeft "Free Roman Polanski" post almost made me puke. Any credibility TL head blogger Jeralyn Merritt rebuilt since the bitter primaries, after the lies she propagated in defense of Hillary, is gone as far as I'm concerned. The guy raped a child -- I didn't think this was a debatable matter.

As for Anne Applebaum, the "journalist" who wrote the WaPo column defending Polanski whose husband just happens to be Poland's Foreign Minister, Poland being a country which is also begging for Polanski's freedom, why she isn't fired for A) Such a stupid column; and B) Such an obvious, undisclosed conflict of interest, is beyond me.

Any liberal, conservative or anything in between who thinks it's wrong he is being arrested, should think about what you said! He raped a child and the fact that he was able to avoid arrest for 32 years is no reason to fail to arrest him now! I hope they drag his butt back here. He can spend the rest of his miserable life thinking of what he did, while Hollywierd makes a fortune off a movie about his "mistreatment". Boohoo!
