The concept of women's sexual "services" (ie, getting raped) being commandeered and sold for the benefit of temples (financially and/or in attracting / keeping congregants) goes back as far as the origin of recorded history in the West, in "The Histories" of Herodotus (the Mesopotamian, Canaanite, and Phoenician sects of Ishtar / Astarte), and is as recent as the "Children of God" cult of the 70s. The "Party of God" (as Hanin Ghaddar, author of the Foreign Policy article excerpted above points out is the literal translation of "Hezb'ollah") is just being true to their name and lineage. Along these same lines, I've been waiting to see how and when our own home-grown Party o' God, the Publicans ("GOP" / "POG," surely not a coincidence), figures out a way to exploit their obviously deeply-repressed membership into providing more $ and an even more willing workforce by instituting some form of Sacred Sex for their own. With their own policies having impoverished most of the former middle-class, there's just not that much cash money available to be snared*, and the rubes are getting restless, so they've gotta do something. So it's not "whether," but when... Remember, you heard it here first. *other than corporate cash, of course. But since when has "enough" ever been enough for any Publican?
