The Japan trench is the deeepst spot on earth. Just imagine how much weight (and air) pushes this total of mass down! Notice also that the middle of Japan is already bending to the east. It could very well be that the ridge holding it up will crumble soon if this violent quakes go on and on for a longer period as predicted.
