Turnovers on Taxes

The democrats have been forced to play defense with regards to the Bush tax cuts.  Obama is between a rock and a hard place right now.  If they want to get a bill passed before the house changes hands, they need to get a bill through asap.  However, for it to make it through the senate, they need to add something for those 250k+ earners as at least 5 democrats are in favor of atleast some tax relief for the rich.  If they wait too long, they risk the republican house refusing anything but a full extension of the Bush tax cuts for all.

So what to do? Well, here is a simple way to plan ahead and force the republicans to play defense down the road.  Present a single bill and extend tax cuts for all, but with a single teensy caveat.  For all income below 250k these tax cuts will be permanent.  For income above 250k the extension will only be for three years.  This would mean that three years from now would force the republicans to vote for a tax cut ONLY for the wealthy.  The reason why three years is important is that if it were to be extended for two years, it would be possible to pass this in a lame duck congress or right after a new congress comes in when their votes will be out of sight and out of mind.  However, with a three year extension, this would force a vote 11 months before the 2014 midterms.
