Quote of the Day – Possibly the Election Cycle – from Mike Barnicle

I awoke this morning to Nora O’Donnell on Morning Joe repeating the apparently unchallengeable beltway media meme that New Gingrich is a man of ideas who will contribute much to the debate, blah, blah, blah, I swear, it was printed on a press release so it must be true, yadda, yadda. But as the panel of morning talkers took to the idea of Newt’s latest candidacy the roulette ball drop in the black slot and it was Mike Barnicle’s turn to repeat the meme…only he would not have it.

Micha – Mike Barnicle, um, does Newt Gingrich in any way reignite hope for the Republican Party.

Barnicle – They better hope not. He is a delusional loser, with an intellectual chip on his should that might be his biggest handicap in terms of the public. He has this habit, this way of prattling on about all of the ideas, the new ideas he comes up with for our political system, and it’s because probably he went to like East Overshoe College or something and he wants to prove that he’s smarter than anyone from the Northeast, from Harvard. He is just ridiculous, this is ridiculous, his candidacy is a joke.

So what are those ideas that Newt is so full of? Mother Jones has a three page list of them going back to 1978 which everyone should read and the New York Times has an editorial up on Mr. Gingrich’s Intolerant History.

UPDATE: Here is the video of the segment quoted above. Pay close attention to how the panel responds to Barnicle’s comments which begin at 7:38 of the clip.

  1. Mike Barnicle once in a while says it like it is. Too much of the time he just backs up Scarborough and makes silly comments. Other times he is dead on. Of course I can’t watch when Scarborough is on, he makes ruins my day.
