I’ve blogged about Newman’s death (and life) at Liberty Street.

(Here is a wonderful anecdote about Newman that didn’t make it into my post at L.S.)

In this time of turmoil within the left pitting brother against brother in what seems like a battle to the death for soul of the Democratic party, along comes a writing contest that can make us all feel better.

Michael Goldfarb’s* Very Revealing American Idol Analysis

Created: May 2nd, 2008 | Written By: Kathy

*Note from Kathy: My apologies for dissing Michael Goldfarb about a piece that was actually written by Dean Barnett. And thank you to Martin in Comments for calling my attention to this.

Okay, look — I know this is not exactly a life or death issue, but sometimes a person’s character is revealed more starkly by the seemingly little things. Here is what Michael Goldfarb Dean Barnett had to say about the results of this week’s elimination process on American Idol:

#CFLF - We are now Twitterific

Twitter.

Based on the chatter on the ‘interwebs’ it is highly likely that you have never heard of it. This time last week I could have counted myself among that group but, like Facebook, YouTube, and del.icio.us before it, I have taken a leap into the unknown and dragged my trusty blog along with me.

I’m Never Going to Congo

I tried. I tried really hard to avoid this story. But the fourteen-year-old in me wouldn’t let me resist.

Penis theft? Seriously?

Actually this is a subject I might look into further.

Cindy McCain’s Farfallegate Moment

Created: April 15th, 2008 | Written By: Dustin

First off let’s get this out of the way. The fact that John McCain’s wife (or a staffer writing in her name) seems to have blatantly ripped off a couple recipes from the Food Network and listed them each at the McCain website as a “McCain Family Recipe” doesn’t really matter to the campaign.

Fox News Documentary: John Oliver Edition

Created: April 11th, 2008 | Written By: Dustin

With President Bush’s second term quickly (but not quickly enough) coming to an end Fox News saw fit to document his harrowing saga. Not one to be ignored The Daily Show’s own John Oliver made a documentary of his own, this one focused on none other than Fox News itself.

In typical clip-laden format John Oliver succeeds in giving Fox News a “stunning smackdown“, showing them to be the flip-flopping propagandists they are. It’s really too bad that humor seems to disqualify consideration for “serious” news because it’s times like these that really make me wonder how a Comedy Central station show ended up having some of the best investigative reporting in America.

In case you missed The Daily Show we’ve included the clips below the fold.

Fossil Of Snake With Legs Discovered

Created: April 11th, 2008 | Written By: Kyle E. Moore

The BBC reports that a fossil has been discovered of a snake–with legs!  Some scientists are hailing this as a major breakthrough.

They should have come to me first.  I could have pointed them to some snakes with legs, they work at the White House.

Join Me In The One True Way

Created: April 5th, 2008 | Written By: Macswain

For all those who have been wondering about my drop off in blogging in recent months as opposed to six months ago, let me offer a brief explanation. I’ve actually been on an intense personal journey. I’ve been more interested in finding myself and finding broader universal truths than in worrying about the minor things — progressive politics, the minor nuances between Obama & Clinton, etc.

Now, I’m not normally one for proselytizing, but, given my history on this site, I beg you all to forgive this one indulgence. I’ve found something bigger than all of us. Mr. Cruise is right that there is only one true way. If you will just give me a brief moment of your time, I suspect this short video will change your life as it did mine:
