Joe Lieberman: The CIA Wouldn’t Lie!
I’m not quite sure why Lieberman believes the CIA has never lied when lying is an inherent part of what they do. Maybe the lies were telling him what he wanted to believe.

And apparently President-elect Obama was instrumental in persuading Senate Democrats to content themselves with the slap on the wrist “punishment” of removing Lieberman from the chairmanship of an environment subcommittee. One wonders why they bothered.
Senate Democrats on Tuesday yielded to the wishes of President-elect Barack Obama and allowed Joe Lieberman to keep his committee chairmanship despite having backed Republican John McCain for the White House.
At a closed-door meeting, Senate Democrats meted out lesser punishment, passing a resolution of disapproval and stripping Lieberman of the chairmanship of an environment subcommittee.
It’s truly appalling. None the less so for being totally predictable and expected.

Bernie Sanders, also of Vermont, sent us a hard-hitting statement demanding that Lieberman get the push — and strikingly, he said that if Dems didn’t remove him, it would be an insult to Barack Obama’s supporters and a betrayal of the change mandate voters delivered to the President-elect.
Lieberman and Congressional Democrats Are on the Same Page
And always have been. If you are under the impression that there is any meaningful anger or hostility toward Joe Lieberman because he campaigned for John McCain and characterized his own party’s candidate as a favorite of terrorists and a man who doesn’t put his country first, you should not be:

I think what’s troubling me even more than Sen. Joe Lieberman’s self-righteous sense of entitlement to continue chairing the committee that will oversee national security policy under the presidential leadership of the very man whose run for office Lieberman actively opposed and even betrayed, with shameless ad hominem attacks and McCarthyite smears, is the apparent willingness of even some progressive Democratic leaders to let him get away with it.

It’s a week before the election, and Joe Lieberman is gulping hard: Ooopsie! No hard feelings there, okay, Barack?
Sphere: Related ContentJoe Lieberman adopted the role of Republican attack dog early on, but as the election draws near, he’s hoping the political world has a very short memory.
Lieberman, a self-proclaimed “independent Democrat” who was chosen by McCain to make the case against Obama at the Republican National Convention in early September, said his comments have been within bounds.
“When I go out, I say, ‘I have a lot of respect for Sen. Obama. He’s bright. He’s eloquent.’”
My hunch is, Lieberman sees the direction of the political winds, and hopes to convince Democrats that while he’s been a McCain sycophant, he’s always been “respectful” towards Obama.
Lieberman, in other words, has to hope Democrats haven’t been paying any attention at all. The party is supposed to forget, for example, when Lieberman argued that Obama doesn’t put “country first.”
And the time Lieberman said it was a “good question” to ask whether Obama is a “Marxist.”
And the time Lieberman ironically accused the Obama campaign of “sleazy tactics.”
And the time Lieberman, at the Republican National Convention, falsely accused Obama of trying to undermine the troops
“Respectful”? Nice try, Joe.
McCain Wanted Lieberman
So it seems that McCain really wanted to pick Joe Lieberman as his running mate, but could not stand up to the Christianists’ wrath:
