The End is Nigh?

Dan Conley, who served as an aide to former Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, posted a must-read article at Salon this past Thursday (h/t jrootham @ BnR) detailing how any future concessions by the Clinton campaign might play out. Using Wilder’s departure from the 1994 Virginia senate race as an example, Conley calmly outlines what could potentially be involved in any backroom negotiations between the two prospective Democratic presidential nominees:

Public Service Announcement

Greetings fellow Left Fieldians*, I’m tas and you’ll be hearing more from me in the future. I had been talking with Kyle via email and, in response to one of his recent posts where he said his blogging time would be limited lately, I mentioned that I could step in as a guest blogger, so here I am. Kyle writes some outstanding essays on a daily basis though, so I know I’ll need to step my game up.

Some of you may know me because I ran Loaded Mouth; plus I’ve guest blogged at more place than I can remember. So I know how to handle the terrain on somebody else’s blog — I’m a guest. I at least have to act housebroken. But I have gone ballistic on other blogs before, and given the manner I used to act in on my own blog, some people might be wondering if Kyle’s brought a ticking timebomb on board at CFLF (and if you’re a fan, you might be grinning with anticipation). So just to set everyone’s expectations, here is a list of words and phrases** that you won’t see me utter in my CFLF posts:

Goddammit.

Godfuckingdammit.

More later, when I get home. Crying at work isn’t exactly my idea of a fun way to spend a Friday night. But thems the motherfucking breaks.

My sincere condolences to Andrew’s family.

Heh. These peas certainly are fresh. And hot.

Update: More @ Memeorandum.

Update 2: Andrew’s last post @ ObWi was soliciting funds on behalf of Pretty Woman Bird House. Though they reached their goal last week, PWBH is still accepting (and in need of) donations. Making one in Andrew’s name (as I plan on doing once I get home from work) would be a great honour to his memory, and his legacy.

(Can you tell these peas are fresh?)

Update 3: Rocky Mountain News obituary (h/t Jim Henley; more here.)

A Shotgun Divorce?

I’ve been following the increasingly acrimoneous Ron Paul-related blogspat between David Neiwert and Glenn Greenwald with great interest. Not particularly concerned with the substance of the dispute, though I will admit to being sympathetic with Neiwert’s position. With that said, as the battle lines continue to be drawn I believe there are broader implications at play.

Quote Of The Day: FTW

Steve M. fucking nails it:

Now I remember why I resented it when the left blogosphere (or the kool-kid part of it, anyway) turned into the “netroots.” I hadn’t thought we were blogging with the direct intent of helping Democrats win elections. I thought the point was to create a counternarrative of American politics, which might actually spread the notion that Republican ideas aren’t reasonable and Democratic ideas aren’t cockeyed and treasonous, and might further spread the notion that the political world thinks Republican ideas are reasonable because Republican character-assassination politics has made Democrats and liberals seem like freaks. Oh, and maybe we’d eventually have Democrats within the system who didn’t believe Democrats are freaks, people who believied it was worthwhile to go on fighting even while being called freaks.

But instead, in 2006 we just elected a larger-than-usual crop of the same kinds of Democrats we always elect when we elect Democrats. And they suck.

PREACH!
